Xe3 starts from the handheld envelope
Intel designed Battlemage (Xe2) for desktop discrete cards with 130-220 W power budgets. The Arc B580 succeeded partly because that desktop architecture scaled down well. Xe3 inverts the approach: tuned from the start for 15-80 W handheld envelopes. Shader cores, memory controllers, and thread dispatch hardware are sized for the form factor, not down-scaled from desktop. In practice this means better performance per watt at 15-25 W where handhelds run game sessions, and more predictable thermal behavior as TDP scales.
XeSS 3 multi-frame generation is the marquee software feature
XeSS 2 introduced AI upscaling competitive with DLSS Super Resolution and FSR 3. XeSS 3 adds multi-frame generation, interpolating additional frames between rendered frames to boost smoothness. The multi-frame approach (interpolating 2 or 3 frames per render) is one step past NVIDIA's single-frame DLSS Frame Generation and AMD's FSR 3 Fluid Motion.
